Waiting

,

For so many years, I took pause as I heard Isaiah 40:31 expounded upon.

The speaker would always tie the word wait into meaning to serve, like a waiter in a restaurant.

I’m not fond of that representation of wait.

Not because I don’t want to serve but because it says to me that I have to “work” to receive from God when that is not what this scripture is saying.

I prefer wait meaning to hope, and hope defined as confident expectation, not hope filled with anxiety.

I can have confident expectation because of the One in whom I’ve placed my hope.

If I have confident expectation in God, my strength will be renewed.

I especially like the part that mentions mounting up on wings like eagles.

Take a look at this video.

Sasha the eagle in a wind tunnel. Wind starts at 1:06.

Did you hear that?!? The eagle used the wind to propel itself and did so with no force, no effort, and no flapping.

When you wait for the Lord, there should be no striving or running here and there serving like a waiter.

When the wind started, the eagle changed its posture, lifted its wings, and soared.

THAT is how you wait.

It is knowing how to position yourself, lifting your expectations to the Lord and and drawing closer despite the wind… because of the wind…

using the wind…

31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.
