I Am a Christian—But Not Like That

I am a Christian.

And I am not ashamed – even if, at times, the way others carry that label makes me want to be.

I believe in living a life that is worthy of that label.
And still, I make bad decisions.
I stumble.
I fall.

Christianity does not make me perfect.

I do not have all the answers about God or the Bible.
I am okay not having all the answers.
I am still learning.
Still searching.
Still living.

I do not believe in forcing others to live by my beliefs – including through laws.

I do not believe in excluding others because we believe differently.
I try to follow the example of including everyone, especially those others overlook or push aside.

I share my faith because I want people to experience the same love I have experienced.

A love that is patient and kind.
Not envious, boastful, or proud.
A love that does not dishonor others,
is not self-seeking,
and is not easily angered.

A love that keeps no record of wrongs.
That doesn’t delight in evil,
but rejoices with the truth.

A love that always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.

That’s a lot!

But that is the kind of Christianity I believe in –
the kind I try to live.

A Christianity that practices love.
