Isn’t it funny that we’re taught to be kind to everyone, except ourselves?
I see “Be kind; everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about” signs and messages all around.
I wonder why we exclude ourselves from everyone.
Why can we be so unkind to ourselves while taking pride in extending kindness to others?
We treat ourselves like people who don’t deserve to be treated well.
We act like we need to get ourselves together to deserve to be treated well.
But others don’t require the same “getting together.”
Why?
Why isn’t kindness to ourselves automatic?
Instead of waking up and choosing kindness toward ourselves, we choose violence.
We look at our flaws, internal and external, and talk down to ourselves. Are we undeserving of kindness for not being what or who we had hoped?
No. We need it even more.
We speak to ourselves in a manner that we wouldn’t speak to our friends – or we wouldn’t have any friends.
Why?
Why not look at yourself, internally and externally, and appreciate you, flaws and all?
Why not see yourself as someone deserving of kindness?
Hey you, be kind to yourself.
